Nigeria Assembly
He just finished the Dyhm National Assembly.
We had about 40 youngheart at the Conference Center for 6 days. They would have been more if not for lack of sponsorship from the Friars and the Sisters. I have propose that we envolve a lay domuincan Chapter so that the members who pass the age of youth can be absorbed into it. And also that we may have resource persons for lay formators. Relying on the Friars and Sister is slowing our progress

Dominican Family at the World Youth Day 2005
Dear Sisters and Brothers!
The celebration of 'World Youth Day' will be held from 15-08 until 21-08-2005 in Cologne, to which we expect 800 000 young people from the whole world.
We, a team of Dominican sisters, brothers and laity are already looking forward to this great event. This is why we take great pleasure to invite all members of the Dominican Family to welcome the youth of the world to be with us.
Our order has two churches located in Cologne, St. Andreas and Holy Cross, and also another church in Düsseldorf, St. Andreas. These are the places where we would like our visitors to fully experience our spirituality and hospitality.
We extend our warmest welcome.

Why young Catholics were so enthusiastic for Pope John Paul II
Pope John Paul II sowed seeds of the new springtime -- seeds of evangelization that are beginning to sprout in the lives of young Catholics, according to one observer.
Tim Drake, author of "Young and Catholic: The Face of Tomorrow's Church" (Sophia Institute) shared with ZENIT how the Pope impacted so many individuals and why young people embraced him so passionately.
Q: You have written that John Paul II inspired a new generation of young Catholics to embrace a robust, committed Christian faith. How have you seen this play out?
Drake: It's impossible to talk about John Paul II without talking about young people. From his earliest days as Pope until literally his last breath, he engaged in a preferential dialogue with them.
Among his first words to them were, "You are the hope of the Church." And just hours before he died, John Paul said to the young people of the world, "I have looked for you. Now you have come to me. And I thank you."
It's easy to think that young people aren't involved with the Church simply because they aren't sitting next to us in the pew. But in researching my book "Young and Catholic: The Face of Tomorrow's Church," I discovered that the young are active in many other ways within the Church.
Catholic teen ministries such as NET Ministries and the Dead Theologian's
Society are booming. Through organizations such as Amigos for Christ and Youth
for the Third Millennium, teens are seeking out service and evangelization
opportunities both at home and abroad.
Young adults are gathering across the country to discuss the Holy Father's
works such as "Love and Responsibility" and the "theology of the body." Young
adults are gathering by the hundreds and sometimes thousands for Saturday and
Sunday evening young adult Masses in places such as Denver's Cathedral and
the NET Ministries' LifeLine Mass in St. Paul, Minnesota.
They are increasingly choosing authentically Catholic colleges and getting
involved in Bible studies and devotional opportunities on secular campuses.
The seeds of the New Springtime that Pope John Paul II predicted are
beginning to sprout. I have great hope for the future of the Church.
Q: What was it about John Paul II that was so attractive to youth?
Drake: They loved him because he loved them first. His pastoral friendship
with young people began when he was just a young priest assigned to rural St.
Florian's Catholic Church outside of Krakow.
While working at the parish, Father Wojtyla served students at the
Jagiellonian University, the Krakow Polytechnic and the Academy of Fine Arts. He
visited students in the dormitories and got them to attend conferences on
Christian doctrine.
He launched the parish's first marriage preparation course. He traveled,
hiked, skied and camped with the young. He held retreats and led intellectual
discussion groups with young adults and young married couples.
When Cardinal Wojtyla became Pope, young people sensed his enthusiasm for
youth and responded to him accordingly, chanting "John Paul II, We Love You."
And he responded, "Woo, hoo, hoo, John Paul II, He Loves You."
At World Youth Day in Toronto in 2002, I watched the Holy Father during one
of these exchanges. His health was already declining but not his genuine love
for young people, which was evident for all to see: He joyously tapped his
hand in rhythm to the chants and responded with a broad smile.
In John Paul II, young people encountered the love of Jesus himself: that's
what made him so attractive.
Q: How did the Holy Father translate Church teachings into something young
people could understand and follow?
Drake: Unapologetically, he proclaimed the Gospel and lived it. Young people
loved him because of his moral stands, not despite them.
For many who grew up in a fatherless generation, he was their father. He
challenged them with the Gospel and called them to lives of holiness. He
understood the difficulties of the teenage years and of the times in which we live.
Yet, he never hesitated to call the young to something higher.
At Denver's World Youth Day in 1993, John Paul told the young, "Do not be
afraid to go out on the streets and into public places like the first apostles
who preached Christ and the good news of salvation in the squares of cities,
towns and villages. This is no time to be ashamed of the Gospel. … It is the
time to preach it from the rooftops."
John Paul preached the Word -- with his voice, with his deeds and, finally,
with his suffering.
Especially near the end of his life, young and old were touched by this good
man who, without embarrassment or complaint, picked up his crosses one after
another: old age, Parkinson's disease, immobility, and finally pneumonia and
even the loss of that sonorous voice of his that had called so many to
follow Christ. He carried each new cross with dignity for the entire world to see.
"Be Not Afraid," the Holy Father said in 1978. As the years went by, it was
obvious to all who had eyes to see that he was not afraid of growing old
before our eyes. He was what he asked the young to be: "salt and light."
An entire generation of young, active Catholics has accepted his teachings.
That will have an impact for generations to come.
Q: How has John Paul II influenced young people's vocations to the
priesthood and religious life?
Drake: In a recent phone conversation, Sister John Paul of the
Michigan-based Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, described to me how World Youth
Day and the Holy Father's words to the young gathered in Denver had been the
turning point in discerning her own religious vocation.
Then she said, "Hold on. There's another sister here you need to talk to."
That sister had also discerned her vocation as a result of the Denver
gathering. But the phone call didn't end there. She passed the phone to another
sister, who passed it on to one more.
In that remarkable hour on the phone, I spoke to four nuns, all from
different states, each of whom was particularly moved by her encounter with the Pope
at World Youth Day.
In fact, claimed Sister John Paul, her vocation was a direct response to the
Holy Father and his call. She concluded, "Every young person who has
responded to a religious vocation in this country ties their vocation back to John
Paul II. We're not getting it from anyone else."
While writing my book, "Young and Catholic," I interviewed more than 300
youth and young adults, and found that such experiences were common. Many
priests have told me similar stories as well.
Q: What part has World Youth Day played in reviving young Catholic faithful?
How important is it for the next pope to continue holding this event?
Drake: World Youth Day is the epicenter of the revival of the faith of young
people. When John Paul first proposed it, some bishops and even members of
the Curia expressed skepticism. They didn't think young people would respond,
but respond they did.
Over the course of his papacy, more than 11 million young people accepted
Pope John Paul II's invitation to spend a week with him in prayer and
pilgrimage.
If, as John Paul said, the youth are the hope of the Church, then it is
critical that World Youth Day continues. No matter who the new pope may be, and
no matter what his previous relationship with youth may be, young people will
gather with him in Cologne this August.
John Paul renewed a dialogue first started by Christ; young people want that
conversation to go on.

Ecuador por la Justicia y Paz
Hermanos y hermanas que Dios les llene de Bendiciones por sus palabras de apoyo y solidaridad… El MJD en Ecuador ha sentido la fuerza de sus oraciones en estos momentos tan difíciles y de tanto dolor. GRACIAS HERMANOS!!!
Simplemente puedo contar mi historia junto a mis hermanos con los cuales hemos luchado codo a codo contra esta “dictadura” que en esta tarde ha caído y hemos demostrado como un pueblo UNIDO lleno de Ideales, Dios y Paz puede cambiar la historia, se que ustedes como jóvenes dominicos pueden sentir el coraje e indignación cuando existe injusticia, corrupción e impunidad…
Existieron momentos en esta tarde (20 de Abril) en los que teníamos que ayudar en medio del caos a personas que caían victimas de la represión y los gases, fueron momentos muy duros que espero nunca mas volverlos a vivir. (Victimas de esta represión hermanos ecuatorianos y un hermano chileno dejaron sus vidas en la calles)
Cuando supimos que el presidente intentaba salir del país, nos movilizamos hacia el aeropuerto donde increíblemente centenares de personas se tomaron las pistas de aterrizaje para evitar que el avión pueda despegar.
En estos momentos la situación es incierta pero existe mas calma... Lo grave ahora es no caer en la anarquía y el caos, porque somos gente de paz y justicia!
La oración, su apoyo y mi fe han sido mi mayor fortaleza en estos momentos, en los mi país necesitaba de mi y de millones de ecuatorianos para volver a la paz y la justicia
Que Dios y la Virgen Santísima, llenen de PAZ a nuestras Naciones que a pesar de tanto dolor, existe gente como ustedes que luchan por la vida, justicia y paz

New Coordinating Team in Chile
El pasado fin de semana el MJD de Chile se reunió para elegir la nueva coordinación les acompañara por los proximos tres años.

Juan Pablo II: volvió a la casa del Padre
El Papa Juan Pablo II volvió a la casa del Padre el sábado 3 de abril a las 21.37. Nos sumamos al coro mundial para rendir homenaje al Papa Juan Pablo II y agradecer a Dios por su presencia en nuestro mundo tan turbado.
Recordamos al Papa como el único líder mundial que siempre e insistentemente, habló a favor de la vida y contra toda clase de asesinato.
Igualmente su cercanía al mundo de los jóvenes.
Estuvimos presentes en la Plaza de San Pedro el día del fallecimiento y posteriormente ante los restos mortales. En nombre del IDYM pedimos ante él a Dios por el eterno descanso de su alma.

IV ENCUENTRO DEL MJD de VENEZUELA – LOS TEQUES 2005
A partir de las 2:30 p.m. del viernes 01 comenzaron a llegar al Centro Claret en la ciudad de los Teques, jóvenes de distintas partes de nuestro lindo país y de los diferentes grupos juveniles que conforman el Movimiento Juvenil Dominicano de Venezuela; de tal manera que a las 6:30 p.m. ya habían llegado cincuenta y dos participantes al encuentro. Han venido los que el Señor convoca, a fin de renovar el compromiso del carisma dominicano.
Después de una rica cena, nos dispusimos a recibir formalmente la bienvenida preparada por los jóvenes del Grupo del Rosario de los Teques, en la que cantamos el Himno del Movimiento Juvenil Dominicano en Venezuela con mucha alegría. Después nos presentaron una escena en la que reflejaban la oportunidad y el llamado que Dios nos está haciendo a través de este encuentro.
Seguidamente Sor Clementina dio lectura a la carta de que envió Fray Kike Sariego, en la que se hizo presente exhortando a los jóvenes a observar con mirada crítica y corazón sensible, la realidad que nos rodea, a fin de examinar que respuesta concreta estamos dando; porque ¿quién hablará si tu te callas?. Ser joven dominico supone compromiso constante y permanente; no sirven las tibiezas, se necesita de manos disponibles y corazones arriesgados. Animando a los jóvenes dar lo mejor en el encuentro y en la vida diaria de cada grupo.
Terminamos este primer día con la oración de las completas, y nos retiramos al descanso, después de un largo y fatigado día.
SÁBADO 02:
Llegado el día central del Encuentro, Fr. Manuel Eduardo fue el encargado para el toque de la campana (Pito) a las 6:30 a.m. Encontrándonos como grupo en la Oración de la mañana a las 7:30am, preparada por el grupo anfitrión y dirigida por Fr. Kleyver José. Tuvo una intención especial orar por el santo Padre Juan Pablo II, al parecer continúa en su angustiosa agonía.
Pasamos inmediatamente al momento del desayuno, pues ya era la petición común de los chicos. Son jóvenes y comen mucho. Posteriormente el grupo Nuevas Estrellas Dominicanas de Calabozo a las 9:00am expuso el tema central de la Asamblea Nacional: “Justicia y paz, valentía y verdad, así seremos luz en la oscuridad”. Su exposición ha marcado la importancia de estos valores y principios, a la vez que brindan las herramientas de cómo poner en práctica los mismos. Distintas propuestas se comparten de cara a elaborar un eventual proyecto de Justicia y Paz del MJD de Venezuela.
La distribución en equipos es para trabajar en pautas de acción para un trabajo en conjunto del MJD de Venezuela, igualmente para hacer una representación alusiva al tema. Luego de la merienda y animados por algunas dinámicas nos dispusimos escuchar en plenaria las representaciones y las propuestas de trabajo. Concluyeron la temática con una danza alusiva al trabajo desarrollado.
Después del almuerzo nos organizamos para participar en un Rally Dominicano, organizado por el Grupo Santo Domingo de Río Chico, en la que con mucha emoción los jóvenes se divirtieron y a la vez pusieron a prueba sus conocimientos dominicanos. Al concluir la competencia, supimos la noticia del fallecimiento de Su Santidad Juan Pablo II, por quien elevamos una oración.
Seguidamente de un buen baño, escuchamos la experiencia vivida por Marcel Serrano y Linsay R. en el VII Encuentro mundial del IDYM en Manila, Agosto 2004. haciendo saber a los asistentes las inquietudes y logros que se van dando en el caminar del MJD de Venezuela en los últimos años.
Nos manifestaron también las propuestas de reflexión y formación en torno a Justicia y paz.
Seguido nos esperaba una rica cena, en la que compartíamos como hermanos de una misma familia, sin tener en cuenta el grupo de destino.
Aprovechamos una media hora intermedia para ensayar los cantos de la Eucaristía dominical, animado por los jóvenes del Grupo Antorchas.
Pasamos a escuchar los informes preparados por cada grupo asistentes al Encuentro el cual se presentaron de la siguiente manera: Antorchas, Nuevas Estrellas Dominicanas, Del Rosario, Santo Domingo- Catia, Santo Domingo-Río Chico.
Terminada esta presentación nos dispusimos a vivir un momento de oración y celebración en la fogata que algunos jóvenes había previamente preparado. En la fogata unidos como hermanos rezamos un rosario a Ntra. Madre la Virgen, pidiendo por las necesidades del mundo, por los jóvenes integrantes de todos los grupos y por el eterno descanso de nuestro hermano Juan Pablo II, recién fallecido. Terminamos alabando a Dios con cantos dinámicos.
DOMINGO 03 de Abril
En este día del Señor comenzamos con la oración de Laudes, preparada por el grupo Nuevas Estrellas Dominicanas, en la encomendamos de una manera especial a nuestro hermano Su Santidad Juan Pablo II, quien el día anterior había dejado esta tierra para ir a la patria celestial.
Después del rico desayuno, pasamos a desarrollar la Asamblea del Encuentro, en la que previa reflexión y estudio, se realizó la votación de los cambios y modificaciones introducidas a los estatutos del Movimiento.
Seguidamente se llevó a cabo la votación de la Asamblea Nacional haciendo de escrutadora Sor Jennifer Rincón, quedando electo en la Coordinación Nacional:
Coordinador: Marcel Serrano.
Vice-coordinador: Liannaly Alvarado
Secretario: Fray Manuel Solórzano
Tesorera: Sor Célida Amariscua
Asesor Espiritual: Fray Kleyver García
Representante en la Familia Dominicana: Jacqueline Rodríguez.
En asamblea se decidió elegir en los cargos de Secretario y Tesorero a frailes o hermanas, a fin de tener un mejor asesoramiento y continuidad en los procesos iniciados.
Inmediatamente nos tocaron la campana para el almuerzo, y posterior a esto concluimos nuestro IV ENCUENTRO DEL MJD DE VENEZUELA, con la celebración de la Eucaristía, preparada y animada por los grupos Antorchas y Del Rosario.
Después de una rica cena, nos dispusimos a recibir formalmente la bienvenida preparada por los jóvenes del Grupo del Rosario de los Teques, en la que cantamos el Himno del Movimiento Juvenil Dominicano en Venezuela con mucha alegría. Después nos presentaron una escena en la que reflejaban la oportunidad y el llamado que Dios nos está haciendo a través de este encuentro.
Seguidamente Sor Clementina dio lectura a la carta de que envió Fray Kike Sariego, en la que se hizo presente exhortando a los jóvenes a observar con mirada crítica y corazón sensible, la realidad que nos rodea, a fin de examinar que respuesta concreta estamos dando; porque ¿quién hablará si tu te callas?. Ser joven dominico supone compromiso constante y permanente; no sirven las tibiezas, se necesita de manos disponibles y corazones arriesgados. Animando a los jóvenes dar lo mejor en el encuentro y en la vida diaria de cada grupo.
Terminamos este primer día con la oración de las completas, y nos retiramos al descanso, después de un largo y fatigado día.
SÁBADO 02:
Llegado el día central del Encuentro, Fr. Manuel Eduardo fue el encargado para el toque de la campana (Pito) a las 6:30 a.m. Encontrándonos como grupo en la Oración de la mañana a las 7:30am, preparada por el grupo anfitrión y dirigida por Fr. Kleyver José. Tuvo una intención especial orar por el santo Padre Juan Pablo II, al parecer continúa en su angustiosa agonía.
Pasamos inmediatamente al momento del desayuno, pues ya era la petición común de los chicos. Son jóvenes y comen mucho. Posteriormente el grupo Nuevas Estrellas Dominicanas de Calabozo a las 9:00am expuso el tema central de la Asamblea Nacional: “Justicia y paz, valentía y verdad, así seremos luz en la oscuridad”. Su exposición ha marcado la importancia de estos valores y principios, a la vez que brindan las herramientas de cómo poner en práctica los mismos. Distintas propuestas se comparten de cara a elaborar un eventual proyecto de Justicia y Paz del MJD de Venezuela.
La distribución en equipos es para trabajar en pautas de acción para un trabajo en conjunto del MJD de Venezuela, igualmente para hacer una representación alusiva al tema. Luego de la merienda y animados por algunas dinámicas nos dispusimos escuchar en plenaria las representaciones y las propuestas de trabajo. Concluyeron la temática con una danza alusiva al trabajo desarrollado.
Después del almuerzo nos organizamos para participar en un Rally Dominicano, organizado por el Grupo Santo Domingo de Río Chico, en la que con mucha emoción los jóvenes se divirtieron y a la vez pusieron a prueba sus conocimientos dominicanos. Al concluir la competencia, supimos la noticia del fallecimiento de Su Santidad Juan Pablo II, por quien elevamos una oración.
Seguidamente de un buen baño, escuchamos la experiencia vivida por Marcel Serrano y Linsay R. en el VII Encuentro mundial del IDYM en Manila, Agosto 2004. haciendo saber a los asistentes las inquietudes y logros que se van dando en el caminar del MJD de Venezuela en los últimos años.
Nos manifestaron también las propuestas de reflexión y formación en torno a Justicia y paz.
Seguido nos esperaba una rica cena, en la que compartíamos como hermanos de una misma familia, sin tener en cuenta el grupo de destino.
Aprovechamos una media hora intermedia para ensayar los cantos de la Eucaristía dominical, animado por los jóvenes del Grupo Antorchas.
Pasamos a escuchar los informes preparados por cada grupo asistentes al Encuentro el cual se presentaron de la siguiente manera: Antorchas, Nuevas Estrellas Dominicanas, Del Rosario, Santo Domingo- Catia, Santo Domingo-Río Chico.
Terminada esta presentación nos dispusimos a vivir un momento de oración y celebración en la fogata que algunos jóvenes había previamente preparado. En la fogata unidos como hermanos rezamos un rosario a Ntra.
